By a curious coincidence, IE 8 was released today. I needed to check it out anyhow, and in the process discovered that "Private Browsing" is invoked via [ctrl]-[shift]-P

Thanks John! Worth noting: Firefox 3.1 has been renumbered to 3.5. Seems they went a little nuts adding new features and decided it needed to be more than just a tenth digit.

The same trick will also work in Chrome with "Incognito browsing" (hit Ctrl-Shift-N).

There's a similar capability in the Internet Explorer 8 Beta. I don't know how to invoke it, but I gather that doing a web search for "IE 8 Porn Mode" would probably turn up instructions.

In all three cases, what happens is that when you close the browser, it erases the history and cookies associated with the browsing session.

Even easier - if you're using Firefox 3.1, which is still in Beta - select "Private Browsing"
