I have had my weekly geek-out. I attended the first showing of Star Trek at Regal Cinemas.

I don’t fret about canon the way some do, but I noted early on a few discrepancies, primarily pertaining to orphans and widows, and missing siblings. Why, of course, became quickly evident.

Great movie. I’ve never seen something jump over the shark in the other direction before. Not until today.

Goof. I’m thinking of *Paramount Studios*.

The differences between Paramount and Lucasfilm are cosmetic.

Yep! I’m not particularly well connected, but my work with the Farpoint and Shore Leave conventions had a little extra benefit this week when the organizers of both events were invited to an advance screening.

I’m not surprised at the multiple sneak previews; after the disappointments of Nemesis and Enterprise I’m certain the studio is looking for some buzz. I’m happy enough to oblige them. (I’ll probably post a few more thoughts on the Fanboy blog once I get caught up on a few things.)

I’d heard it was supposed to be a return to the crew first coming together, and that Leonard Nimoy was returning as Spock. These were the roots of my concerns. The way things went though was a huge surprise. More than that, I’ll have to save for emails.

But I did like the reference to Admiral Archer.

I saw a preview last night, too, and have seen on the socnet that others in other locales besides yours and mine did too. Something suspicious happened last night….

Anyway, I agree, and I saw it with some hardcore TOS fans who were still happy that ‘it was done right.’

I kind of had heard the direction they were headed, so it wasn’t exactly unthinkable to me, but I didn’t know any plot points, and would never have guessed some of the things they did. I’ve already begun thinking about the next movie, and how I would write it if I were asked to do so, so yes, there should be some renewed interest.
