Indoor Plumbing

Dear Wylie,

Every year in December, my humans equip the house with new indoor plumbing, but then in January, after less than a month, they get rid of it again. What should I do for the other eleven months of the year?

Camille
Montgomery County, MD

Dear Camille,

Many humans bring a tree into the house in December. That's because December is the start of the cold time of year and they don't like going outside as often as we do. December is also the time of year when guests are more likely to stop by and the tree is there to show that other dogs are also welcome to visit.

For the rest of the year, many humans keep potted plants which can be used instead of a tree. These plants are usually kept near the living room windows, or occasionally in a spare bedroom. It's worthwhile noting however that humans don't always think things through and will frequently put the plants up on a table without thinking about how hard it is for us to get up there.

If there aren't any plants available, and your humans won't take you outside as often as you like (and who doesn't like getting outside for eight to ten hours a day?) you can always use the television stand in the living room in a pinch. Be patient with your humans and in no time at all, they'll be taking you out on a regular basis.

WOOF!
Wylie
